Last week, David Omer presented in the Interspecies Conversations lecture series, hosted by the Interspecies Internet—a pioneering organization dedicated to exploring communication and connection across species. The Interspecies Conversations series brings together scientists, artists, and thinkers to broaden how we understand interspecies communication—and I was delighted to contribute our perspective from neuroscience and primate research. In my lecture, “The Naming of Nonhuman Primates: Vocal Labeling of Others by Marmoset Monkeys,” I shared our recent findings that marmosets use distinctive “phee-calls” to label and address one another.
